Album: What Goes Around It has been awhile since we had a new CD from Vermont's Western Swing Band fronted by the talented Rick Norcross, who is heard on lead vocal and rhythm guitar. This very interesting new CD of 12 songs, both old and new, is the much awaited final product. The other lead vocalist is Taryn Noelle who is in the spotlight on the western swing classic Right or Wrong and she is joined by her mates from the Blue Gardenias, Amber deLaurentis and Juliet McVicker for Johnny Marvin and Harry Tobias' Swing on the Range that Mary Lee sang in a Gene Autry movie. Amber and Juliet also add their harmony vocals to four other album tunes. The album also features the fiddle of Doug Reid and the lead and rhythm guitar of Dono Schabner. Charlie MacFadyen is the pianist and accordionist, Rachel Bischoff is heard playing drums and Chris Wright is the bassist. The album opens with a very interesting version of an old favorite My Bonnie. Other old favorites are Marvin Montgomery's You Got What I Want, originally from Marvin's Light Crust Doughboys and You're in Heaven, Rick's complete Vermont rewording of Bobby Troup's Route 66. Rick also wrote five other very interesting and very different tunes, What Goes Around, You're Gonna Get Hurt, Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! A Grill, A Bumper, 4 Headlights and a $50 Bill and I Rode the T! The remaining two album tunes are Never Be Anyone Else and Hot Sauce. The album can be obtained for $15 plus $2 shipping and handling from Rick Norcross, 216 Battery Street, Burlington, VT 05401 or on line at www.rickandtheramblers.com Mike Gross, WVOF-FM, Fairfield, CT |
