Album: Hank Did It This Way
Artist: Les Gilliam
Label: Lunacy

The smooth voiced Les Gilliam came up with a very interesting concept for his brand new CD of 14 Cuts. As the album title hints it is a tribute to five singers named Hank, Western Swing greats Hank Penny and Hank Thompson and country music legends Hank Locklin, Hank Snow and Hank Williams. To make this project a reality Les picked a grouping of some wonderful musicians.

One of the most prominent players is the album steel guitarist Curt Shoemaker. Greg Burgess plays some very enjoyable fiddle and Terry Scarberry plays electric and acoustic guitars. The album features other fine musicians such as Dave Copenhaver, the bassist, the pianist Dennis Borycki and Steve Short, the drummer. Also heard on background vocals is Stephanie Short.

The album opens with a very interesting tribute tune written by Les to set the theme called Hank was his Name. He then does the tribute to Hank Penny, Rex Griffin's Won't you Ride in My Little Red Wagon and Hank Locklin with Send me the Pillow that You Dream On. The next salute is to Hank Snow with I'm Movin' On and A Fool Such as I. There is a four tune tribute to Western Swing hall of fame great Hank Thompson, Humpty Dumpty Heart, Most of All, Wild Side of Life and Gals Along the Yukon. There are also a four cuts remembering Hank Williams, Fred Rose's Kawliga and Take these Chains from My Heart, Hank's Hey, Good Lookin' and a Medley of You Win Again, I Can't Help it and Cold Cold Heart. The album closes with Les's own patriotic composition What's Right with America.

Les sells his CDs by mail for $17 each post paid which includes a personally autographed photo at no additional cost. The address is Eagle Enterprises, P.O. Box 350, Ponca City, OK 74602. You can also check his website for more information including info about other recordings. www.lesgilliam.com
