Album: Thumbin' It
Artist: Bobby Koefer

Bobby Koefer is a legendary steel guitarist that played in the bands of Bob Wills, Bill Boyd, Billy Gray and Pee Wee King. He is also enshrined in the western swing and steel guitar Hall of Fames. He has just released a new CD of 33 tunes. The tunes are short, between 0:57 on the Leon McAuliffe memory Mr. Steel Guitar and 2:30 on Santo and Johnny's Sleepwalk. Each piece of music is awesome. The album was produced and engineered by Lanny Fiel and all of the tunes were arranged by Bobby. This new album also features Lanny on fiddle, piano, bass and drums. Amanda Shire is also heard on fiddle. Bobby, Lanny and Amanda are also credited with the vocals.

The three vocal items are Bobby's own, beautiful Waltzing with Judy and two of Bobby's fan favorites White Lightning from George Jones and Hawaiian War Chant from Jo Stafford. Other items penned by Bobby are the album title Thumbin' it, A Little West of Dixie, Mohegas and Blue Mist. Old favorites include from Bob Wills, Rosetta, This is Southland, Wabash Blues, Steel Guitar Rag and from the Tiffany years Moonlight on the Ganges. Benny Goodman is remembered with Honeysuckle Rose, Gene Autry with I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire, Yours is from Jimmy Dorsey and Panhandle Rag is from Leon McAuliffe. Other gems include W.C Handy's St. Louis Blues, Herb Remington's Jean Street Swing and lots of other favorites like Dream, Carroll County Blues, Georgia Steel Guitar, Sleepy Rio Grande and My Mother's Eyes. The Light Crust Doughboys are brought to mind with Little Girl Go Ask Your Mama, Guy and Carmen Lombardo with Coquette and Paul Whiteman with Whispering. Other steel legends are paid tribute such as Ted Daffan with Blue Steel Blues and Joaquin Murphey with Lover. Two more come from the South Seas, Red Sails in the Sunset and Beyond the Reef. The remaining tune is the beautiful pop standard, If I Had You.
