Album: Lost Trails Western Swing Hall of Famer and Texas Playboy fiddle player Bob Boatright is also a big fan of western music and those classic musical western movies of days gone by. His brother, the smooth voiced Johnny Boatright is also a fan of this musical sound. Bob and Johnny got together with the album producer, guitar great Rich O'Brien to create this beautiful album of 13 classics in this musical genre. Besides Bob's fiddle, Johnny's vocal and Rich's rhythm, lead and Spanish guitars and marimba the album features other western swing legends. The album steel guitarist is the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame's Maurice Anderson, a former Bob Wills Texas Playboy. Also playing lead guitars are two other legendary names, Tommy Allsup and Billy Dozier. Mac MacRae is the bassist. Also heard on vocals is Riata, comprised of Vickie Cherry, Lori Rider and Brandi Boatright. The album opens from the Sons of the Pioneers with long time leader, Bob Nolan's This Ain't the Same Old Range. Also from the Sons of the Pioneers are Vaughn Horton's Ridin', Hidin' Teardrops, Tim Spencer's Sentimental, Worried and Blue and the classics Home on the Range and Red River Valley. Nobody's Darlin' but Mine is from both Gene Autry and Jimmie Davis while from Johnny Bond they do Cimarron Roll On and I Wonder Where You are Tonight. Another gem is Spanish Waltz Medley which is a compilation of Mexicali Rose, La Golondrina and Maria Elena. From Roy Rogers and Dale Evans comes Happy Trails to You and from Louise Massey and the Westerners, Adobe Hacienda. They also do the contemporary western jewel, Stephanie Davis' Prairie Lullaby. The album closes with the inspirational Suppertime also from Jimmie Davis. This CD can be obtained from Western Swing Monthly, 205 Sunshine Dr., Georgetown, TX 78628.
