Album: Kelli Grant Swings and Sings Kelli Grant has been nominated for Grammies, she is known as the Queen of Swing and is the wife of former Bob Wills Texas Playboys lead guitarist Johnny Patterson. On top of all that she can really sing, write songs and also play bass, piano, drums, bari sax, clarinet, banjo, organ and whistle. All of this is demonstrated in this brand new CD of 15 cuts. The album also features the Swing Kings, four very talented former Bob Wills Texas Playboys. In the spotlight is steel guitarist Albert Talley, the fiddle of George Uptmor, the drums of Casey Dickens and of course, the lead guitar of, Kelli's husband, Johnny Patterson. The album opens with a big band swing memory from Benny Goodman, Goody, Goody and then goes on to three more pop standards, Walking My Baby Back Home, Zing Went the Strings of my Heart and Walter Donaldson and George Whiting's classic that was so big for Gene Austin, My Blue Heaven. Cindy Walker's Bubbles in my Beer, originally from Bob Wills and Tommy Duncan is revived. Also from Wills and Duncan is Fred Rose's Roly Poly and from the Tiffany Transcriptions the Stan Kenton/June Christy and Mills Brothers hit of the same era Across the Alley from the Alamo. Kelli Grant's pen gives us the instrumental Hodge Podge and a very swinging Swing me Back to Texas and There Ain't No Doubt both with huge hit potential. Also from Kelli's pen is a reprise of her fantastic Don't Mess with Texas and a remake of the patriotic Stand Up for the U.S.A. Kelli also wrote a beautiful heartwarming family story in waltz tempo titled One Heart to Give. The two remaining album gems are classics. Kelli brings back the Fred Rose composed Hank Williams swing memory I'm Satisfied with You and Albert and the band recreate the Billy Bowman and Texas Playboys 1950s masterpiece Midnight in Old Amarillo.
