Album: Treasures
Artist: Hank Thompson & Brazos Valley Boys
Label: Heart of Texas

This brand new CD of 20 never released home recordings of Hank Thompson and the Brazos Valley Boys from the band's 1950s halcyon years is a must for all collectors. It highlights Hank's voice at its best, many original recordings not heard before and a band comprised of some of Western Swing's great pickers.

Besides Hank's vocals and lead guitar the album also features the fiddles of Amos Hedrick, Bob White and the legendary Curly Lewis. Bobbie White and Pee Wee Whitewing are heard playing some very enjoyable steel guitar and Billy Gray was the bandleader and played rhythm guitar. Both Gill Baca and Donny McDaniel are the band pianists and Dubert Dobson played trumpet. The rhythm section was comprised of Paul McGhee heard playing drums and Billy Stewart playing bass.

The album opens with Hank's own You're Too Young to Cry Now and continues on with another Thompson original Harbor of Love. Other tunes written completely or in part by Hank are Could You Love Me Like You Used to, Dial L.O.V.E. for Me, I Know Exactly How You Feel, Mission of Love, I Could Love the Devil Out of You, Eula Prinsana, Meet Me on the Corner, Love is Where You Find it, Desert Jewels, Okie Blondie and You Can't Put that Monkey on My Back. Billy Gray co-wrote some of those with Hank. The Amarillo, TX songwriting team of Weldon Allard and Johnny Hathcock gave Hank Whipporwill Lane, A Fool and his Dreams, Everybody's Crazy and Maple on the Hill. Also included is the Ted Daffan masterpiece Born to Lose, the old pop chestnut My Buddy and Somewhere in Between.

The album can be obtained for $13.95 including postage from Heart of Texas Records, 1701 South Bridge Street, Brady, Texas 76825. www.heartoftexascountry.com
