Album: In My Spare Time Volume 5
Artist: Brady Bowen

Brady Bowen, a fine fiddle player in his own right, has again brought together some of the biggest names in Western Swing alive today to record this new CD of 15 classic songs of western swing. The album was produced by Grammy award winner Tommy Allsup, who is also heard playing bass and guitar.

In addition to Brady playing fiddle, this album also spotlights the fiddle of former Bob Wills Texas Playboy Bobby Boatright. Also heard on fiddle as well as guitar is former Leon McAuliffe Cimarron Boys lead guitar legend, Billy Dozier. Another Bob Wills Texas Playboy and Steel Guitar Hall of Famer, Bobby Koefer is heard playing steel guitar. Chris York is the drummer and Wayne Glasson is heard playing piano. Larry Reed is the sax player. A real treat is the six vocalists heard on the album. They are Western Swing icon Leon Rausch, Durwood Strube, C.B. Sutton, Tommy Allsup, Neal Butler and Joe Paul Clark.

The album opens with Durwood singing Ray Price's Take Back Your Old Love Letters and then goes on to Leon again singing the classic from his former boss, Bob Wills, Maidens Prayer. Other Wills classics redone are Take me Back to Tulsa, Sooner or Later, Ding Dong Daddy and Back Home in Indiana. The group goes to the library of Bob Wills' former great vocalist Tommy Duncan for Grits and Gravy Blues. Tommy Allsup takes the vocal spotlight to bring back memories of his days with Buddy Holly with Raining in my Heart. Floyd Tillman wrote It Makes no Difference Now a hit for so many including Gene Autry. Brady and the band do that and another Autry memory Nobody's Darlin but Mine. Sax player Larry Reed takes the vocal spotlight for the rock-a-billy oriented Flip Flop and Fly. Leon salutes Leon McAuliffe's Cimarron Boys with Search my Heart and from the great Wade Ray Heart of a Clown from Steve Nelson's pen is remembered. We are also treated to Western Swing arrangements of the pop hit written by western swing's Pee Wee King and Redd Stewart, You Belong to Me and the old western classic Red River Valley.
